Over the course of three ages, each master builder constructs one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. But in this strategy game suitable for small and large groups it’s not only the centuries-long building projects but also “ordinary” buildings that can score points. Players use the resources of these ancient cities, trade with their neighbours and drive forward scientific progress. This monumental building project – which at first seems impossible – slowly becomes more achievable; through planning and investment, some buildings can be constructed for free. As the city’s commander, players must watch their defence forces and select the right card before passing their hand to their neighbour. Although each player is solely responsible for expanding their own city, co-operation is necessary to build a wonder.

Civilisation-building around the wonders of the ancient world delivers a great gaming experience: players feel like true rulers as they add cards to their tableau and watch their empire get larger and larger. The simultaneous drafting of cards means the game flows quickly and works wonderfully, whatever the player count. Its variation means that it’s very possible this game could become addictive.
