Kauri

200 years of New Zealand’s settlement history packed into a board game. With the arrival of European colonial powers, with possums in tow, a dynamic interplay between humans and nature unfolds. Whether bird, Māori, rodent, or English settler — each pursue their own goals and change the conditions for the others.

Each turn presents the dilemma of choosing the right cards to support one’s own strategy. „Kauri“ offers an asymmetric gameplay experience with many perspectives and encourages a thoughtful, constructive approach to the topic of colonialism. Even the unwelcome colonial power gradually discovers its ecological conscience over the course of the game.
