Cascadia Junior

On the trail of nature: Off we go to Cascadia, the wild and diverse region in the northwestern USA and Canada. That means: back to Cascadia — this is a child-friendly reimplementation of the 2022 Game of the Year.

Bears, deer, foxes, hawks, and salmon roam wetlands, rivers, forests, mountains, and prairies, all depicted on two-part wilderness tiles. These tiles should be placed so that the same animals are grouped into families and — by the end of the game — landscapes of the same type form large groups as well.

This dual tile-laying task is spread over two phases. The simple mechanisms support children’s creativity and their love of nature. An advanced scoring variant completes the experience.

Jury statement:

Before the children’s eyes, a fascinating natural landscape with vibrant wildlife emerges. Every decision completes this picture. The team behind „Cascadia Junior“ has carefully rethought every element of the original game in a way that’s accessible for kids. Collecting, puzzling, and shaping the landscape is fun and gently introduces strategic thinking.
