2025: Great experiences, impressive worlds, powerful stories

The spectrum of games recommended and nominated by the 15 honorary jury members this year ranges from ‘Topp die Torte’, which makes our mouths water, to comic-like explosions in ‘Bomb Busters’ and from the simple card game ‘Flip 7’ to titles that tell stories in the style of escape games.

These include the detective story reading game ‘Sherlock’s Spürnasen’ (The Animals of Baker Street), whose story delights children and adults alike, as well as ‘Medical Mysteries: New York’. Although the latter is only recommended for ages 16 and up due to the serious subject matter, the work in the hospital emergency room is certainly not just aimed at fans of medical podcasts and hospital series.

‘Kauri’ also impressively proves that board games can tell strong, realistic stories and takes a look at New Zealand’s past without uncritically adopting the viewpoint of the conquerors. ‘Cascadia Junior’, on the other hand, lets children explore nature and wildlife in the US-Canadian border region. We literally descend deeper with ‘Endeavor: The Deep Sea’. This project for exploring the endangered ecosystem of the oceans is aimed at very experienced players.
